With the Highlands Art League’s Artist Village one of the reasons we relocated to Sebring, we’ve been supporters for the past 9 years. I’ve served on the Board, taught Kids Camps, Workshops and Art Uncorked, been a studio artist at the Yellow House, and supported most of the fundraisers. HAL has made, and is continuing to make a huge difference in art and culture in Sebring and Highlands County. Now with the Artists Village completed, many new members and young people are discovering the joys of creating art, and the Art League is living up to its Mission.

We did one of the Art Uncorked events (Dancing Irises with Kristy) and it was WONDERFUL! We had so much fun and I learned a lot about painting. The artist was patient and explained everything - there was a lot of room for creativity and some people really did their own thing. Every painting was different and everyone really seemed to have fun. I would go back and do it again in a heartbeat!

As a relative newcomer to Highlands County about 10 years ago, I was thrilled to discover the Highlands Art League. Being an interior designer, I felt right at home in the Yellow House with all of the interesting, talented and creative people around. Enjoying the monthly open houses, volunteering at the annual Art Festival, and supporting the fundraisers gave me a quick start to feeling more a part of this wonderful community. It was a privilege to serve as a Board member and contribute to such a worthy cause as fostering a love of art! Kudos to all involved!

I am by no stretch an artist, nor do I really have any artistic abilities, but I have attended Art Uncorked on 5 occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I not only learned a great deal about colors, painting, and use of brushes, but I met many delightful people and had a great time. The food and beverages were good along with the stimulating social interaction. I am attending a session tonight and will continue to go as long as they are being offered. You will never find a painting that I completed in any gallery, but at the end of the day, the stress relief and time having fun is worth every dime spent to participate.

After I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art & Design I moved to Sebring from Michigan. Figuring that I would never find a job in this small town as an artist, I turned to my “back up plan” of being a Graphic Designer. After two wonderful jobs and 7 years later as a successful Graphic Designer I quit my job to be a stay at home working Mom as a freelance designer and artist. One month after I quit my job, I had an opportunity to teach Art Uncorked classes a couple times a month at the Highlands Art League! For the first time since college, I am PAINTING! Its a win-win, I get to paint, share my love for art with others, TEACH and get paid! Plus, as a mom who works from home, I don’t get many opportunities to socialize without my daughter…Art Uncorked classes are my “night out” too! I love it! I recommend HAL and Art Uncorked to all my friends!

I recently took my mother for our first-ever Art Uncorked class, and we both had a blast! I had no idea what to expect, but liked the informal ‘feel’ and really enjoyed Kristy (our instructor) as well as chatting with all of the other amateur artists. Most importantly, I loved the time I got to spend laughing and talking with my mom – we will be back!

I have always been interested in art and painting, but a little unsure that I didn’t have the natural ability to learn. So, after a few Art Uncorked classes I decided to take 6 week Watercolor course offered at the Highlands Art League. With the direction of art instructor Kristy Harris, I was able to actually paint real paintings to be proud of! Not to mention having a fun night out every week was a special treat as well. Thanks HAL for allowing regular folks the opportunity to get in touch with our artistic sides!
